Orchestra of the Royal Netherlands Air Force and Shirma Rouse
In May 2025, the Orchestra of the Royal Netherlands Air Force will travel through Canada with singer Shirma Rouse on a unique liberation tour. The program, titled “It’s All About Freedom,” is a musical tribute to the liberation of the Netherlands during World War II, with special attention to the deep bond between the Netherlands and Canada.
The Orchestra of the Royal Netherlands Air Force, known for its impressive performances,combines swinging music with the soulful voice of Shirma Rouse. Together they bring a special program in which stories about freedom, resistance and liberation come together. The theme “It’s All About Freedom” touches the hearts of everyone who attends, both the Canadians who remember their heroes from the liberation and the Dutch visitors who relive the feeling of freedom in their own country.
The Trips to Montreal, Ottawa and Toronto
The tour starts in Montreal, the city where the old and new worlds meet. It is a city with a rich history and a multicultural vibe. The orchestra plays to an enthusiastic audience, with Shirma Rouse, in her signature style, performing songs like “Oh Happy Day”, “Amazing Grace” and “He’s got the whole world in his hand.” On Friday 9 May, the orchestra will play in St James United Church and on Saturday 10 May will give a private performance in the St Anne’s Hospital for veterans.
After Montreal, the group travels on to Ottawa, the political capital of Canada. Here, the bond between the Netherlands and Canada is celebrated in a special way. In the presence of representatives of the Canadian government and veterans of the liberation, the musicians pay a special tribute to the Canadian soldiers who played a key role in the liberation of the Netherlands. Together with Shirma Rouse, the orchestra will give a concert in the War Museum on Sunday 11 May and on Monday 12 May they can be admired at the Tulip Festival, location HMCS Carleton. On Tuesday 13 May, the orchestra will be present at a military ceremony near Parliament Hill.
The final concert of the tour takes place in Toronto, the city that is vibrant and vibrant, just like the music that fills the air. Here the orchestra performs in the theater of TMU – The Chrysalis again together with Shirma Rouse. The closing concert has an atmosphere where the audience feels one with the message of freedom and solidarity. In the afternoon there is a military ceremony near Queen’s Park.
